Dr. Alan Cockerill has been a NAATI accredited professional translator from Russian to English since 1992, and is NAATI certified under the new certification system. He is highly qualified, with an honours degree in Russian language and literature from the University of Melbourne, a Masters degree in Russian translatorship from the University of Queensland, and a Ph.D. (for his study of the eminent Soviet educator Vasyl Sukhomlynsky).

Dr Alan Cockerill

Alan has worked as a translator for the Queensland Bureau of Ethnic Affairs and the Commonwealth Translation and Interpreting Service. He has extensive experience translating immigration documents, including birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce certificates, driver licences, police clearances and educational qualifications. He has also translated Vasyl Sukhomlynsky’s educational classics My Heart I Give to Children and Our School in Pavlysh (original title: Pavlysh Secondary School).

Study in Moscow

After completing an honours degree in Russian language and literature at the University of Melbourne (1974), and a masters degree in Russian translatorship at the University of Queensland (1986), Alan studied at the Pushkin Institute of Russian Language in Moscow in 1987 and 1988, while at the same time conducting research for a doctoral thesis about the eminent Ukrainian educator Vasyl Sukhomlynsky.

Rates for Russian to English translation
Birth certificate – $35 (inserted citizenship certificate incurs an additional charge)
Driver licence – $35
Police clearance – $35
Passport pages (front matter) – $35
University degree (without transcript) – $35
University degree with transcript – $150-$180 (depending on length)
Other documents – $20 per 100 words of the resulting English translation, with a minimum charge of $35 per document.

Alan also undertakes literary translation from Russian to English, with a focus on the works of the holistic Ukrainian educator Vasily Sukhomlinsky.
